PKNS: State government removed Azmin

PETALING JAYA: The decision to remove Bukit Antarabangsa state assemblyman Azmin Ali as a director of Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS) was made by the state government and not the state agency, said PKNS working secretary Norita Mohd Sidek.

PKNS’ statement contradicts Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s announcement yesterday that the decision to remove Azmin was made by PKNS general manager Othman Omar.

“We sent a letter to Azmin on Jan 8 to inform of his termination in line with a decision made by the state government on Nov 13, 2013, endorsed by the state executive councillors on Dec 4, 2013.
“The authority to appoint the board of directors lies in the hands of the state government and not with the general manager, as stated in Clause 4 (1) of the PKNS enactment,” said Norita today.
Azmin had his tenure in PKNS ended abruptly last week, despite his contract only expiring on February 2015.
Yesterday, Khalid announced at a press conference that he had nothing to do with Azmin’s removal from the PKNS board.
“The decision was made by the PKNS GM and the state exco has nothing to do with it. PKNS is not a political party and the decision was not a political move,” Khalid was reported saying.
Miffed by Khalid’s statement. Azmin took to Twitter and responded with a one liner: ‘Kenyataan kangkung.’
