DAP worries if Private Bill becomes ‘Govt Motion’

Hudud
KUCHING:  Sarawak DAP is worried that PAS may convert its Private Members Bill into a Government Motion.

Sarawak DAP Youth chief Wong King Wei said under the current circumstance  PAS will not be able to pass its Private Members Bill in parliament without  the collective support from the non-Muslims MPs.
But if it turns into a Government Motion Bill then there is a high likelihood that it will be passed.

“When it comes to Government Motion Bill, it will always be given priority to be tabled, debated and always passed.
“It is very worrying to see the Kelantan state government and federal government walking hand-in-hand,” said Wong who is a lawyer and Padungan assemblyman.
He was responding to reports that the Kelantan government and federal government had met and had resolved to set up a technical committee to look into the viability of implementing hudud law.
There are growing fears that Islamic laws, if implemented in Kelantan, could possibly extend to the federal level.
Thus far Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak has not taken a stand. However reports indicated that Putrajaya was ‘leaning’ towards hudud laws.
Meanwhile state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the issue was now in Barisan Nasional’s hand.
He urged BN component parties to stand firm against any attempt to introduce hudud law in Malaysia.
He said Najib’s open support for hudud and willingness to discuss the matter was worrying.
“Before this, BN parties SUPP, MCA and Gerakan were most vocal against hudud. But now after their BN masters expressed support, these parties have suddenly become dumb and blind.
“It must be clearly said that PAS, without the full and whole support of BN, cannot carry out the implementation of hudud in any state in Malaysia. The ball is now in the court of BN,” said Chong.
He added that DAP’s stand is that if PAS went ahead and implemented the hudud law, then the party must  leave Pakatan.
