Kapar ‘thriving’ with illegal gambling dens

KAPAR: A PKR member of parliament today called upon the police and Kapar district council (MPK) to take stern action against illegal gambling dens in the Kapar constituency.

“There are over 300 illegal Internet gambling centres around Kapar. But, despite complaints made to police and MPK, there has been no action from both authorities,” G Manivannan told reporters in his service centre in Kapar.
“Since last month, I have received numerous complaints from public and local NGOs over this gambling activities; thus, I assigned my office bearers for an immediate investigation.”

“I was shocked to know that this Internet gambling centres are operating openly without any fear from police and MPK.”
“We also managed to take pictures of a few illegal gambling centres. The most shocking part is that there are six illegal gambling premises operating in Jalan Raja Mokthar, Kapar, which is less then 50 meters away from the Kapar police station,” said Manivannan.
He is surprised that the police is ignorant about the whole issue when indeed the public could give accurate information about their illegal activities.
“I believe it could be possible that some police personnel are informing the owners of the centers about raids” he added.
Manivannan also confirmed that he had sent letters to the Klang district police head Mohd Shukor Sulong, Inspector Aziz Shamsudin, who is in-charge of the Kapar police station and MPK authorities too.
“In fact, I invited Mohd Shukor, Aziz Shamsudin and MPK representatives for this press meeting. Unfortunately, no one has turned up for this event,” he said.
He stressed that he will not be making any further police reports on the matter as there were already several lodged previously. Instead he will give seven days to the relevant authorities to take the appropriate action against these illegal premises.
