KUALA LUMPUR: Hindraf chairman P Waythamoorthy today called on Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to step down from office as he had betrayed the Indians by not fulfilling the promises made in the MOU signed prior to the 13th GE.
Making the call at a press conference, here today, Waythamoorthy said Najib does not have the requisite will and courage to meet the demands made in the memorandum.
He further vented his disappointment with Najib, saying that over the eight months he had held 16 meetings with the premier to push the unit forward, as well as to obtain the necessary budget but Najib failed him.
Waythamoorthy, labelling Najib as a weak leader, said it is time he passed on the leadership to a more credible person.
In a bold move, last week Waythamoorthy relinquished all his positions in the government and had apologised to the Indian community for failing them in getting their demands met by the Barisan Nasional government.
Hindraf’s list of demands were contained in a MOU signed by Hindraf and the BN government prior to the 2013 General Election, in May last year.
Waythamoorthy was appointed senator and subsequently deputy minister to carry out initiatives for the Indian community as contained in the MOU.
