‘Lim’s apology insincere’

GEORGE TOWN: An opposition Umno assemblyman slammed Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng as not being sincere in his apology to state opposition leader Jahara Hamid for calling her ‘a racist grandmother.’
Muhammad Farid Saad of Pulau Betong said Jahara, the Teluk Air Tawar representative, was gravely hurt and broken hearted with Lim’s attack on her and his subsequent conditional apology.
“The Chief Minister called YB Jahara a racist grandmother.

“YB Jahara still can’t accept it. She felt insulted, dejected, hurt and her heart is broken by the remarks.
“We regret that the Chief Minister’s apology was insincere and meaningless.
“It was not an apology at all,” Farid told newsmen during a break at the assembly sitting here today.
The Umno man tore a paper from a notepad to demonstrate how hurt and heart-broken Jahara was over Lim’s disparaging remarks.
On Monday Lim slammed Jahara as a racist grandmother for raising a question in the assembly session on alleged council’s double standard enforcement on illegal eatery outlets in Butterworth.
Jahara has asked why the Seberang Perai municipality (MPSP) had demolished Malay hawkers’ stalls in the town area while Chinese-owned seafood restaurants in Pantai Bersih were spared from such drastic action.
Hurt by Lim’s seething attack, Jahara returned fire calling the Chief Minister as “a sexist.”
She demanded Lim to retract and apologise for his statement.
Farid also expressed disappointment with Pakatan lawmakers, especially from the DAP, for frequently accusing Barisan Nasional representatives as “racist” at every opportunity.
He said the ruling coalition seemed to want to turn every question and comment from the BN representatives, all from Umno, into racial issues.
He said Pakatan backbenchers had been aggressive to condemn, scold, insult and label the opposition legislators as “racist” for raising issues of public interests.
He urged the House Speaker Law Choo Kiang to come up with a definition and guidelines on what constituted racist and racism to stop Pakatan’s abuse.
