Another EGM in MCA?

PETALING JAYA: Speculation is rife that the new MCA leadership is contemplating holding an extraordinary general meeting to review its “no cabinet post” resolution by the end of February.

It is believed that the idea was put forward in anticipation of a cabinet reshuffle, which might take place in May.
Sin Chew Daily and Oriental Daily both reported that the new leadership, made up of former Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai as president and former deputy Education minister Wee Ka Siong as deputy president , was planning to hold an EGM in conjunction with MCA’s anniversary celebration in February.

“February 28 is MCA anniversary, if the EGM can be held on the same day, then the central delegates don’t need to travel (down to Kuala Lumpur) again and again,” Sinchew quoted an anonymous source.
However, this idea still needs the green light of the party’s central committee, which would hold its first meeting tomorrow.
Even if the central committee agrees to the EGM, it must be supported by majority of the 2,300 central delegates.
MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong when contacted by FMT neither confirmed nor denied the speculation.
The EGM would be the party’s latest attempt to join the cabinet. At an EGM in Oct, 2013 the party central delegates voted against taking up cabinet position.
But this was when former president Dr Chua Soi Lek was in control of the MCA.
Sources reveal MCA would only be looking at the maximum two ministerial and two deputy ministers posts.
Liow to lead Selangor MCA
Meanwhile, China Press, Oriental Daily and Nanyang Siang Pau have predicted that Liow would make himself the new Selangor MCA liaison committee chief in the full line-up list scheduled to be unveiled later today.
Wee is expected to be the new Johor MCA chief, while either vice president Lee Chee Leong or CC member Mah Hang Soon would likely be appointed as the Perak chief.
Tanjung Malim MP and CC member Ong Ka Chuan is likely to be appointed secretary-general, while Teluk Intan MCA chief and businessman Kuan Peng Soon would be the new treasurer-general.
CC member Wyman Yoo is tipped to be the national organising secretary while Wangsa Maju MCA chief Yew Teong Look likely to be co-opted into the CC.
The appointments looks set to consolidate Liow in the party.
