ICJ denies ‘Sultan Malacca’s’ claim

PETALING JAYA: The International Court of Justice today denied Raja Noor Jan Shah Raja Tuah’s claim that it had recognised him as the ‘Sultan’ of Malacca last year.

“I regret to have to inform you that no case involving the issues and/or persons mentioned in your communication is pending before the ICJ or has ever been examined by it,” the ICJ Information Department replied in an email, when contacted.
“I am sorry we are not able to be more helpful,” it added.

Raja Noor had previously claimed that his recognition as the ‘Sultan of Melaka’ was granted by the ICJ on Nov 25, last year.
BN leaders had dismissed outright the claim by Raja Noor to be recognised as the ‘Sultan’ of Malacca and want authorities to take action against the individual.
“The authorities need to look into people who claim they are from a royal bloodline before it causes confusion among the people,” said MCA vice-president Chua Tee Yong.
Umno Cheras division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee also doubted Raja Noor’s claim that he is in possession of a document from the ICJ.
“How can the ICJ say that his claim is true? On what basis?” he asked.
“We have a government. The government of Malaysia and the Conference of Rulers should recognise it first,” he said.
Melaka Chief Minister Idris Haron said Raja Noor had also tried to challenge the Federal Constitution.
The constitution, among other things mentions Malacca as one of the states administered by a federal representative as the head of state, namely the governor of Malacca who is appointed by the King.
He said the legal counsel of the Malacca state government will look into the matter and take appropriate action against any party who tries to make misleading claims about the status of the state.
Idris said Malacca only recognises medals and honorary titles given by the governor of Malacca, Mohd Khalil Yaakob.
