KAJANG: PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said yesterday that he has yet to decide whether to defend his party post or otherwise.
“I have not decided on defending the post. I want to concentrate on the Kajang by-election first,” said the Gombak MP, when asked yesterday at the sidelines at Taman Saga Emas, Kajang.
On Friday, Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim announced that he would run for the PKR deputy presidency in the party polls scheduled for April.
“I’m a very dedicated individual. Most importantly, I work for reform agenda, not personal agenda,” Khalid was reported to have said.
Queried on Khalid’s announcement, Azmin said, “Everyone has the right to contest.”
Azmin and Khalid have not seen eye to eye on many issues since the the latter’s appointment as menteri besar in 2008.
In January, Azmin was dropped as a director of the Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS) under mysterious circumstances. Upset over the matter, his supporters had accused Khalid of having a hand in the matter.
Khalid, who is also PKNS chairman, however, had denied any involvement on the matter.
The Kajang by-election would be held in March 23, with the nomination scheduled for March 11.
To date, PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim and MCA vice president Chew Mei Fun had announced their candidacy for the state assembly seat.
Also in the contest are former law minister Zaid Ibrahim and former dangdut singer Herman Tino
