‘I want PKR candidate to lose deposit’

Datuk Amar Haji Adenan Haji Satem
MUKAH: The Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) is concerned over the overconfidence of voters that the coalition is sure to retain the Balingian state seat in the by-election tomorrow.

Chief Minister and Sarawak BN chairman Adenan Satem said he was sure that the BN would win but he wanted the majority to be bigger.
“I want a victory with a bigger majority so that the opposition candidate loses his deposit,” he said at a meeting with the people in Kampung Jembungan here yesterday.

Balingian has 13,366 voters, of whom 133 exercised their right during early voting on March 25. The others will cast their votes Saturday at 21 polling centres.
The contenders in the by-election are former Dalat district officer Yussibnosh Balo of the BN and businessman Abdul Jalil Bujang of PKR.
The by-election is necessitated by the resignation of Taib Mahmud when he stepped down as the chief minister on Feb 28. Taib is now the state governor.
In the 2011 election, Taib retained the seat with a 5,154 vote-majority in a three-cornered fight against Independent candidate Salleh Jafaruddin and Suriati Abdullah of the PKR.
Meanwhile in a separate function, Adenan said BN will keep its promises to the people.
“BN is unlike the opposition who will promise the people many things but will not be able to deliver.
“We may not have delivered 100 per cent but will continue to deliver to
keep our promises continously and not just during elections,” he said after presenting 246 land titles at Kampung Sesok yesterday.

Adenan said Taib had promised the people that their temporary occupation licence (TOL) would be converted into land titles with this year.
