PAS respects DAP’s objection to implementing hudud

KAJANG:  Hulu Langat MP, Che Rosli Che Mat does not see an issue with DAP’s objection against Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakub’s plans to implement hudud in the state.

Speaking to FMT at the sidelines of PKR’s appreciation function last night, the second term PAS MP said: “In PAS’ tahaluf siyasi (political cooperation), everyone respects each other’s views even if their stance opposes one another.  We are fine with DAP opposing hudud.”
Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob is planning to push for a private member’s Bill in parliament through one of PAS’ MPs to implement hudud in Kelantan. The state passed the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Court Enactment in 1993.

PAS affirmed their political cooperation with the DAP and PKR during its annual general meeting held last November in Shah Alam.
At that time, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang even claimed that Umno, not DAP, being the stumbling block that is preventing PAS from implementing hudud.
Apart from Kelantan, another state that has a state enactment to implement is Terengganu.  The enactment was passed in 2002 when PAS ruled the state.
Yesterday afternoon DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang reaffirmed his party’s steadfast opposition against implementing hudud in Kelantan.
DAP veteran leader Karpal Singh and DAP’s legal bureau chief Gobind Singh Deo have already stated their opposition against PAS’ plans for an Islamic state.
Karpal opposed the plans because the enactment is unconstitutional and is against national interest
