Kangkung flashmob: Rep’s aides under probe

Lee Khai Loon Kangkung1GEORGE TOWN; Three special assistants to Machang Bubuk state assemblyman Lee Khai Loon are under probe for sedition for the “I Love Kangkung” flashmob event held in January.
Ho Leng Hong, Tan Xin Ying and Andrew Chew will soon be called up to help police in their investigation.
Lee held the flashmob in which he stuffed kangkung (water spinach) into the mouth of a cut-out image of Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.
The event was organised in response to Najib’s statement on the low price of kangkung.
Lee said the police probe on the event that happened eight months ago was politically motivated.

“I was also investigated after the event but no action was taken,” he said.
He added that his service centre had received a letter today from the Central Seberang Perai district police headquarters requesting the trio to help police in their investigation.
The Penang PKR information chief said the police however, did not fix the date and time to record their statements.
Police have classified the case under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both.
Lee said the police resumed investigation into the case following the recent crackdown on the Penang Voluntary Patrol Squad, politicians, academicians and journalists for sedition.
