PPS is a stand-alone entity, unlike Unit Amal

PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Society (RoS) claims that Penang’s Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS) is a stand-alone unregistered body and not similar to Unit Amal of PAS.

Speaking to FMT , Director-General Razin Mohammad said, “PPS is different than Unit Amal.
“Unit Amal registered as one of the sub-committee of PAS which stemmed from its youth wing. It is established in PAS’ Charter.

“PAS’ Charter allows for establishing a sub-committee or ‘lujnah’ which Unit Amal clearly is.
“PPS, however is a different entity altogether, in the sense that it is not a sub-committee of DAP nor any other party, hence should register with RoS to be legal.
Questions were raised regarding the legal status of PPS in recent weeks as 156 of its members were arrested following Merdeka Day celebration in Georgetown.
Leaders from DAP such as Lim Guan Eng has criticised the labeling of PPS as an illegal body by RoS as PPS was set up with the approval of the state government through a meeting of the state executive council on April 8 2009.
It is understood that RoS is reviewing Unit Amal to make sure that they follow the original intention of why it was set up.
