GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government will take legal action against Deputy Health Minister Dr Hilmi Yahaya if he does not retract his statement on the racist doctor issue.
A notice of demand has been issued on Oct 3 through the legal firm of Karpal Singh & Co.
State Executive Council member Dr Afif Bahardin said yesterday that Hilmi has been given seven days to retract the statement,
“Such an action is taken after several chances given to Hilmi to retract the statement went unheeded.
“It is also as a lesson for others to be responsible for statements they made,’ he said.
The action against Hilmi was taken after he allegedly said that Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng failed to keep the promise to submit a report on the racist doctor issue last July 25.
In the notice of demand, it was also denied that Lim, at any time, had said that he would submit such a report.
Pinang Tunggal Assemblyman Roslan Saidin, in the State Assembly sitting last July, raised the issue on the racist doctor, who was said to refuse to treat Malay patients.
