Chua said the request brought by the 20 central committee members received the green light as the majority of the 40 CC members supported it.
“Some of them felt that the first motion (to censure) Liow should be withdrawn, but this was objected to by the 20 CC members who requested for the EGM.
“In the end. We felt it is better to leave it to the central delegates to decide,” he said.
Among the EGM’s agenda is to debate a motion to censure Liow for his failure as head of the general election preparations committee, leading to the party’s dismal performance in 13th General Election.
Another motion is to discuss whether to reverse MCA’s earlier pledge not to assume government posts.
“It is a tit-for-tat effort, they want this EGM because I requested for it to debate the reinstatement of (suspended Johor executive councillor) Tee Siew,” Liow told reporters after the CC meeting.
The EGM would be held at the MCA headquarters.
