Don’t be Mr Arrogant, delegate tells Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita delegates want at least 30% participation in decision making positions and for more roles to be given, either in government or GLCs.
Temerloh Umno delegate, Juhanis Abdul Aziz, told party president Najib Tun Razak not to be ‘Mr Arrogant’ and deny Wanita leaders greater roles in the government.
“Mr President, please don’t be Mr Arrogant. You want greater participation from us but you are shy. What’s so difficult in giving us 30%?

“If you can’t provide 30%, please provide at least 29% participation for us,” Juhanis said while debating Wanita chief Shahrizat Jalil’s keynote speech.
Juhanis added that the Wanita leaders are also often left aside when the party decides on election candidates.
Earlier, Shahrizat called for more participation from women in decision making positions. She said she would not accept token positions within Umno state liaison committees, divisions and branches.
Juhanis also suggested that Umno add the Wanita Umno chief as a vice-president. Currently the Umno veeps are Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Shafie Apdal and Hishamuddin Hussein.
“Wanita Umno chief should be a vice-president. Let the Puteri and Youth wing develop as party wings,” she said.
‘Umno-BN must regain foothold in FT’
Supporting Juhanis, Lembah Pantai Wanita Umno chief Azhari Shaari said women from Umno should also be appointed into federal committees (JKKP) and village security and peace committees (JKKK).
She also raised issues related specifically to Kuala Lumpur residents.
“There are still a lot of squatters. We need to have more low cost flats in Kuala Lumpur. At the same time high-cost housing projects must be monitored,” she said.
“We can’t afford to lose this group of voters. Umno-BN must regain its foothold in the federal territory,” added Azhari.
Of the 11 Parliament seats in Kuala Lumpur, Umno only won in Titiwangsa and Setiawangsa in the last general electiosn in May. The balance seats are held by DAP and PKR.
