Lee’s resignation a planned PKR strategy, says Anwar


BUKIT MERTAJAM: Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim said last night that the parties in the opposition pact had indeed planned to vacate the Kajang state seat to make way for him to contest in the constituency.

He said the resignation of Kajang assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh was not a sudden decision, but made after a negotiation.
“He (Lee) resigned not without a negotiation. He resigned to make way for me to contest. The Selangor government also knows about this.

“In politics, there have to be surprises and this (Lee’s resignation) is regarded one of our (PKR) strategy,” he said in his speech to about 200 PKR youth and wanita members at Yayasan An Nahdoh, Kubang Semang here yesterday.
Anwar said he was also aware that the Selangor government was having internal problems, but, added that, the situation was under control.
“Although the Selangor government is administered well economically, the church and Bible problem is a huge problem in Selangor, so I have to assist to resolve the matter,” he added.
Anwar also said he would explain his intention of contesting in the Kajang state constituency tomorrow, together with Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.
Lee won the Kajang state seat in the last general election with a majority of 6,824 votes in a three-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional (BN), Berjasa and three Independent candidates.
