Rayer not charged with sedition

GEORGE TOWN: Seri Delima assemblyman RSN Rayer was not charged at the Sessions Court with sedition here today.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers has instructed the deputy public prosecutor’s office here to postpone the court action to an unspecified date to be fixed later.

George Town city police chief ACP Mior Farid Alathrash informed the media on this via a text message.

No reason was given for the postponement.

According to counsel Gobind Singh Deo, Rayer was not present in court.

Rayer was supposed to be charged with uttering “Celaka Umno” during a Bukit Gelugor by-election rally in Air Itam last month.

A total of 14 reports were lodged across the country against the DAP man.

Among those who lodged the police reports were the Nibong Tebal, Bukit Mertajam, Tasek Gelugor, and Balik Pulau Umno dvisions, the Federation of Islamic NGOs Penang, the Balik Pulau and Nibong Tebal 4B Youth movements, Southwest Youth Council, Federation of Peninsular Malay Students (GPMS) southwest branch, and Pekida.

Rayer was arrested and released on police bail yesterday after his statement was recorded.
