SHAH ALAM: The master agreement on the restructuring of the water industry will be made public subject to the Selangor Freedom of Information Enactment.

Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said it would be done with the cooperation of the Federal government.
On Sept 12, the Federal government and the Selangor government signed the master agreement to finalise the restructuring of the water industry.

With the signing of the agreement, Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (ASSB), a new entity will take over the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants and water supply services previously done by four concessionaires.
ASSB takes over three water concessionaires in Selangor namely Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (SYABAS), Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd (PNSB), Konsortium ABASS Sdn Bhd (ABASS) and water services licence holder, Konsortium Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (KASB).
Khalid said the agreement was finalised with the lower acquisition cost of RM7.45 billion, much lower than the RM9.65 billion initially offered by the Selangor government.
He stressed any increase in water tariffs in the future will be done at reasonable rates under the purview of the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) with the consent of the state government. - BERNAMA
