Najib Tun Razak yesterday made the decision to ignore its own minister, Idris Jala, the Malaysian official air carrier MAS (Malaysia Airlines), to be sold to another party to lessen the debt that have to be bear by the Malaysian Government. According to Najib, MAS rehabilitation process is showing progress, and the debt incurred by the company are showing positive decrease steadily. We are not sure the truth behind Najib’s statement, only time will tell whether MAS has been truly freed from its debt situation and will it be able to make any major profits in the future. One thing is certain, Najib’s decision to defend MAS as a GLC is because he had succumb to Malay pressure and he want to be seen as a person who defended Malay supremacy in the company. If it is sold to another party, the Malays are worried that the management of the company will be transferred to non-Malays and it will weakened Malay grasp in the aviation and the Malaysian economy as a whole. We have detected that since the end of GE 13, Najib is seen as putting the Malay first and gradually alienating other races in Malaysia, especially the Chinese. More or less, the Chinese will have a bleak future if they were being left behind by the Malaysian government because of the Chinese tsunami in the last GE 13. Only 3% of the Chinese community votes went to BN (the ruling party of Malaysia). The Malay lobbyists are trying their best to protect the interest of the Malays and MAS is not excluded in this fiasco of Malay supremacy. The question is, whether this approach is good for the economy in the long run? The privatisation policy were drawn up to decrease the liability that the government. So that if anything happen, no bail out shall be made to save any company. After Najib took over the country as a Prime Minister, government grips on giant company in this country are getting tighter. |
