The suggestion made by, Datuk Seri Idris Jala to sell off the Malaysian Airline System (MAS) to another party is a good suggestion and must be considered by the government. Even though it is controversial and will open much criticism from BN supporters, Idris Jala seems to ignore all the voices and keep his cool. The main priority is to save a lot of the government’s money without being constrained by any political stigma. The company has already loss a lot of the rakyat’s money with its poor financial standings and the company’s difficulty to compete with other airlines that is much more younger and financially stable like Air Asia and such. The stupidity of the BN government to force MAS to continue its flights without any profits as it is in the rural areas of Sabah and Sarawak, thus making the company suffered more losses and have to ask the government for financial assistant in order to avoid itself from bankruptcy. It is not worthy of MAS to continue its flight in the rural areas of Sabah and Sarawak with high operation cost that is not worth the ticket that these people are paying. Idris Jala who is also from Miri understands about the matter very well. Selling of MAS to another company is an effort that has to be complimented because it will avoid the nation from suffering any more financial losses. Let MAS continue to suffer losses under the helm of non-government related company rather than churning out the rakyat’s money without any profit. The Pakatan Rakyat has long fought for MAS to be sold off to another party. Every year, Pakatan Rakyat’s parliamentary members, told the government to clean up MAS or just sell the company for the sake of the people of Malaysia. It is not a strange thing for an airline company such as MAS to be sold off to another company. After the 9/11 tragedy, a lot of companies merged or being sold off. At the same time, we see that Idris Jala’s action now will give leverage for the Pakatan Rakyat. He frequently questioned the implementation of the GST before this and is knows as one of the reason why BN lost a lot of seats in the parliament and also urban state seats in the last 13th general election. With the PEMANDU agency that he is leading now, it is clear that he is spreading his influence in the Prime Minister’s office, and a lot of policies that is made by the government will incite the anger of the public. Thus it will act as a nail coffin for the downfall of Barisan Nasional in the next 14th General election. |
