Police report against Anwar’s denial

KUALA LUMPUR: A former aide to opposition leader leader Anwar Ibrahim’s legal team has lodged a police report at the Travers police station here yesterday over Anwar’s statement pertaining to 40,000 Bangladeshis voting in the 13th General Election (GE13) on May 5.

Yuktes Vijay told the media after lodging the report yesterday that Anwar’s denial in Parliament  that he (Anwar) had never made any accusations that the Barisan Nasional had brought in that number of Bangladeshis to vote in GE13  was done to mislead the people.
He claimed that on May 3, the opposition leader had accused the government of doing so.

He thus called on the police to investigate Anwar under the Sedition Act and Section 121 of the Penal Code, claiming  that Anwar’s actions threatened national security.
Anwar in denying he had made such a statement said yesterday: “We have checked our statements; we have never made such claims before.
“This is a spin by an Umno blogger. Who ever said there were 40,000 Bangladeshis?”
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak had during his Budget 2014 speech urged the opposition to “ask for forgiveness from god” for making wild allegations about Bangladeshi voting in the May general elections.
