Semenyih flat dwellers in limbo

PETALING JAYA: There is a general air of dissatisfaction at Bangi Jaya flats in Semenyih as the residents allege that they are constantly being ignored by their state representative.

“We have received no help and nothing has been done to improve our situation,” a resident told FMT.
Residents here have been plagued by lack of building maintenance, overflowing rubbish, break-ins, thefts and inadequate public transport.

“My children have to walk close to three kilometers a day to get to a bus stop to go to school. It’s so dangerous because snatch thefts are rampant here.
“There isn’t a week that goes by without something happening. I’m so afraid to park my motorcycle downstairs because parts will always go missing,” said another resident.
Out of the 56 units available, only 20 are occupied.
“Nobody stays here long enough because they can’t stand the gangsterism, the terrible break-ins and horrible maintenance of the place,” said a former resident

 of Bangi Jaya flat.

When asked why didn’t they issue a complaint to their state assemblyman, a former resident said that he was brushed aside when he told the office that he voted in Serdang.
Apparently the state representative told them that most of the residents there were voters not from his constituency thus he cannot assist them in their woes.
“They asked me to seek help in Serdang for the issue in Semenyih. This doesn’t even make sense!”
The residents are in dire need of funds to repair their leaking roofs and also the lower floors get flooded during heavy downpour.
“The exposed wiring caused by thieves can cause serious damage when it rains,” said a current resident.
Meanwhile, due to lack of security within the vicinity has led to gangsters causing further problems and worries to the residents there especially late nights. To-date no action from any authority has been forthcoming according to one of the resident.

“They drink and do drugs right under our noses but we’re too scared to confront them because we value our lives,” said one resident.

FMT contacted the state assemblyman of Semenyih Johan Abdul Aziz for his reaction but he denied all allegation made by the residents of Bangi Jaya flats.
“No one in my office, nor I, have said such a thing. We would never turn away anyone based on where they had cast their votes,” he said.
Johan also added that he couldn’t find any records of the residents coming forth to issue a complaint.
However, when asked further on his next course of action, he said he will visit Bangi Jaya flats personally to assess the situation.
