PAS MP for Shah Alam Khalid Abdul Samad has accused Umno as masterminding two religious raids that have thrown Selangor into a state of disarray.
He said Umno, bitter over their loss of the Selangor state government, was bent on regaining its power by being the puppet master of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS).
Khalid reasoned that the head of MAIS was appointed by the Sultan while its chairman Datuk Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa is an Umno member.
The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) raided the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) on January 21, carting away 321 Malay- and Iban-language Bibles that have yet to be returned despite an order by the Attorney-General to do so.
The second raid was carried out in the middle of a Hindu wedding with the bride being taken away for questioning because she was a Muslim convert. The Selangor government has since ordered that she be assisted to change her religious status to Hindu at the National Registration Department.
Khalid said PAS did not agree with the actions of either MAIS or JAIS as both bodies went against the teachings of Islam that preached respect for other religions.
As the raids were not carried out to protect Islam and its followers, it was clear these incidents were blatantly political in nature with the intention to shake the confidence of the people in Pakatan Rakyat.
